In the past, the Mehmood Booti dumpsite in Lahore was a massive waste pile and a major issue for the local people. This dump site, which has been gathering trash since 1997, is being cleaned up by the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA). This location was notorious for years for its foul stench and the numerous health problems it brought about. However, RUDA is currently making great efforts to transform it into a lovely, verdant park.
RUDA’s plan to turn this site is divided into three big steps. First, they’ll cap the waste with soil and a special layer to stop it from polluting the air and ground anymore. They’ll also do borehole to capture the methane gas produced by the rotting garbage.

Next, RUDA will construct a solar power plant directly on the property. By providing clean energy to nearby residences and businesses, this solar farm will contribute to the area’s increased environmental friendliness.
At last, they will transform the area into a verdant park that will be enjoyed by all. They will create walking trails, plant trees, and designate areas for families to unwind in. This former landfill will soon be transformed into a safe, green area where people can play, stroll, and enjoy one other’s company.
The Lahore Waste Management Company, Nespak Engineering, RUDA, and other Punjabi government agencies collaborated on the project, which has a total estimated cost of PKR 3.5 billion. Even the most polluted locations may be transformed into something lovely and beneficial for the neighbourhood, as demonstrated by RUDA’s work at Mehmood Booti. The goal of this effort is to make Lahore a cleaner, greener city for everybody, not merely to get rid of waste.
